Children’s Church/Sunday School Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of Children's Church/Sunday School is taken from Proverbs 23:6, which instructs us elders to "Train a child in the way he/she should go and when he/she is old, he/she will not depart from it”. (Paraphrased) We also strive to minister to the whole child by encouraging excellence in school and community service by being a benefit to others in their everyday lives. As a ministry, we minister to the elderly by visiting nursing homes and to the homeless by providing small toiletries on occasion. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Children’s Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers are fully vetted with a background check and should be fully committed to the task and the children we serve. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are currently utilizing the David C. Cook Sunday school curriculum and meet the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sundays of the month. Classes are broken down into four age/grade classes; Primary (Pre K to Kindergarten), Elementary (1st - 5th grade) Middle School (6th - 8th grade), and High School (9th - 12th grade). 

  

HOPE Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of HOPE ministry is to minister to the homeless and needy. Those who come to LOTW on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month receive a hot breakfast, change of clothes and toiletries, as well as a chance to win a bicycle. Our goal is to minister to them by praying with them, listening to their concerns, and sharing the good news of the gospel. Currently there are 35 volunteers who serve as either cooks, servers, greeters, clothing boutique assistants and or ministers. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for HOPE Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers must have heart for the homeless and be willing to reach out to our brothers and sisters when they are most vulnerable, Volunteers should know their way around a kitchen if they cook. All volunteers should be patient, loving and kind. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are needed Friday for set-up. The ministry starts at 7 am every 2nd and 4th Saturday. Coffee and love is served prior to 7:50 prayer. Greeters have guest sign-in and are given a ticket, then they proceed to the hot buffet. The ministry visits each table to offer care and support to those who need it. Two bikes are raffled off and all Hope ministry volunteers assist with clean-up. 

  

Men’s Ministry

Ministry Overview: 

The primary purpose of the men's ministry is to provide a place and atmosphere where men can be themselves to express their ideas and thoughts with each other. Creating a confidential environment that provides encouragement, and spiritual growth. Men allowing men to be accountable and responsible for themselves and others, developing true friendships and relationships through a safe place where God dwells. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Men’s Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Men's ministry meets on the 1st Saturday of each month at LOTW from 10am to 12pm,

 

Music Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Music Ministry is to help create and maintain a spiritual atmosphere that is conducive to worship that will usher in the presence of God. The existence of the church choir is not only to sing praises unto the glory of God, but to also inspire and bless others and lift their spirits so that all may experience the joy of the Lord. Our goal is to equip our members with spiritual and musical skills thereby creating an atmosphere in which hearts are prepared to receive God. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Music Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers should have a passion for ministry through music, be faithful to the ministry by setting time aside for prayer, attend all scheduled choir rehearsals, and be able to follow leadership and the vision of the house. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Music Ministry members are required to attend rehearsals every Wednesday at 7:30 pm, Sunday Morning Services at 9:00 am and 11:00 am, and events as the monthly calendar dictates. 

  

Nursery Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Nursery Ministry is to provide nursery services for children of members and visitors while teaching Bible lessons and instilling in the Children Gods precious words and teachings. Showing them his everlasting love and how to walk in a life designed by God. Children walking in the light. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Nursery Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers must possess a background check or be willing to get one. Women or Men who experience working with younger children and have a sound mind and heart, someone respectable and has patience. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are needed every Sunday for both the 9 am and 11 am services. Volunteers are needed for each service and should someone who is consistent and on-time. 

  

Nursing Home Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Nursing Home Ministry is to glorify God. The Nursing Home Ministry ministers the love of God to the needs of the elderly residents and staff. It is bringing the joy of the Good News to those who are unable to attend church and are currently confined. The Nursing Home Ministry ministers to the sick, weak and feeble through love, gentleness, patience and compassion. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Nursing Home Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers should possess compassion and patience for the elderly and the incapacitated population. They should have a faithful prayer life, availability and commitment to serve. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers of the Nursing Home Ministry meets at the J. H. Floyd (Sunshine Meadows) every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday at 9:15 am to 10:45 am. 

 

Parking Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Parking Ministry is to navigate members and guest’s safety throughout the parking lots. A smile and positive attitude are mandatory. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Parking Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are needed every Sunday between 8 am - 1 pm. Volunteers may be asked to serve at special events per Pastor's request. 

  

Prison Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Prison Ministry is to glorify God. God is glorified when lives are changed by the power of his word. Prison Ministry is the conduit through which living water flows within prison walls, and brings hope, encouragement and the love of God to those who at times feel they are unlovable. The Prison Ministry serves as an aid in rebuilding families and reforming criminals to re-enter into society through the word of God. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Prison Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers are required to have a compassion for people, a faithful prayer life, availability and a commitment to serve. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers minister at Bridges Transition Center, every Sunday morning 9 am - 10 am. Mentoring to female inmates one night a week for 1 - 2 hours. Volunteers minister at the County Jail, and provide devotional cards for inmates. 

  

Security Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Protective and Safety Services is ensuring the security of our Pastor, Ministers and church property. In addition to the safety of those in attendance at church services and/or events. Each member of the Protective and Safety Services team shall reflect a smile and extend a friendly hand to those who are on Church property, without intimidation. 

 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Security Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers are required to go through a 24 hour training course given by Derek Jones Security Academy. (Current certified law enforcement personnel are exempt and not required to take the course.) Ongoing training is required on a quarterly basis. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are asked to work one Sunday a month, one weekday a month and to be available for special events as required. 

  

Transportation Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the transportation ministry is to serve God by getting the congregation to and from the church's services, events and to serve the youth ministry with their transportation needs. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Transportation Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers who serve in the transportation ministry must be patient, safety minded with a good driving record, and possess exceptional people skills. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and complete a qualifying road test prior to serving. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are required on Sunday's through Wednesday, and for special event's or trips as needed. Times are as follows Sundays 8am to 2 pm, Monday evenings 5 pm to 7:30 pm, Tuesdays 5 pm to 8:30 pm, Wednesdays 5 pm to 7 pm. 

  

Ushers and Greeters Ministry

Ministry Overview: The primary purpose of the Ushers and Greeters Ministry is to serve the Lord. This ministry is two-fold. The Greeters Ministry primary goal is (as the first point of contact) to welcome and greet each person with a warm and friendly heart. The Ushers Ministry's primary goal is to maintain an atmosphere of reverence and order before, during and after each service. 

Ministry Qualifications: Volunteers for the Ushers and Greeters Ministry should be current members of Light of the World and completed the New Members Orientation. 

In addition, volunteers must have a heart for service; a meek and humble spirit and a respect for all of God's children. 

Ministry Details & Schedule: Volunteers are required to serve at Sunday Morning Services 9 am and/or 11 am. Volunteers are also required to attend monthly meetings held every 4th Thursday of the month beginning @ 6 pm. Volunteers may be asked to serve at funerals and church visits or other church related functions, as needed.
